The History of Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church began in 1952 as a Sunday School project in the residence of Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Fricke, 705 N 48th Ave, Myrtle Grove, Pensacola, Florida. The first service was held on Pentecost, June 1, 1952, with four people in attendance. After several services, it became obvious that there was a need for an Episcopal Mission in this part of Escambia County. Under the direction of the organization committee, the necessary communication with local Episcopal clergy and Bishops Frank A. Juhan and Hamilton West brought about establishment of the mission, Trinity. The name was later changed to Holy Trinity in 1961 by vote of the congregation.
Eight rectors have served Holy Trinity:
-
The Rev. Alvin Bullen, 1953-1955
-
The Rev. Robert Lockard, 1955-1958
-
The Rev. Anthony Gray, 1958-1961
-
The Rev. Charles Holcomb, 1962-1973
-
The Rev. William Morgan, 1974-1978
-
The Rev. M.S. Valentine, VI, 1979-1982
-
The Rev. John Murray, III, 1983-2002

The Rev. Jane Watkins, 2003-2011
Since its beginning, the church has been in four locations and has had many structural faces. After its first location in 1952, growth of the mission church resulted in a much needed expansion program. In 1958, the expansion required the purchase of the adjacent property on 48th Ave to build the second basic structure. It was this building that was moved to 4610 W Fairfield Dr, with the first service held on November 10, 1962. Growth in the congregation resulted in four classrooms being added in 1965.
Again, in November 1975, four more classrooms were added. In addition, there was an expansion to the front of the church made to accommodate 200 worshipers. The church was granted Parish status in 1983, before the arrival of Fr. Murray.
In the late 1980s, it became very apparent that a new structure was needed. In 1992, Holy Trinity made the move to its present location at 850 N Blue Angel Pkwy, Pensacola. The structure was dedicated on December 12, 1993.
